ANDREW DAVID ROSS
June 12, 1986 - May 1, 2010
Andrew Ross was a very creative young man. His talents and interests included literature, music and art. He read extensively, especially non-fiction and philosophy, and he wrote short stories and poems. Musically, he loved to listen to music and to play guitar. He also composed and recorded his own songs. Videography and filmmaking were hobbies as well. Andrew was a talented artist and he created many paintings and sketches. A favorite painting of his was van Gogh’s “The Poplars of Saint-Remy”. Andrew did several of his own interpretations of this and mentioned that he really preferred his own sky to that in the original.
Andrew was a lifelong participant in sports including soccer, swimming, hockey, biking, snowboarding, and his greatest joy, skateboarding. He was actively involved in the skateboarding community, he worked in retail in the industry and he was employed by the City of Edmonton to teach and supervise skateboard parks throughout the city. Many of his friends were developed through this common interest.
Andrew was a very principled young man with a strong sense of right and wrong. He was sensitive and caring but he was also strong minded and determined when it came to pursuing his goals and interests. He was much loved by his family and friends and will always be missed. Andrew is survived by his parents, David and Darcy, and his younger brother, Michael.
At the time of Andrew’s death, he was living in Vancouver and a member of the Vancouver Art Gallery. He had made a decision to move back to Edmonton and he was looking forward to visiting the new Art Gallery of Alberta.
