Welcome to the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA). We are dedicated to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all visitors. By adhering to these guidelines, you contribute to the enjoyment and safety of everyone in our space. 

General Conduct 

  • Respect for Others: The AGA is a shared space for diverse individuals and communities. Discrimination, harassment, or abusive behavior of any kind is not tolerated. 
  • Anti-Racism and Equity: The AGA is committed to equity, inclusion, and respect. We strive to create a space where all visitors feel represented, respected, and valued. Learn more about our commitments here. 
  • Quiet Environment: Please use a respectful tone and volume to maintain the gallery's tranquil atmosphere. 

Admission and Accessibility 

  • Ticketing: All visitors must present a valid ticket for admission. Check our website for free admission days and membership benefits. 
  • Accessibility: We are committed to ensuring the gallery is accessible for all. Visitors requiring accommodations can find more information here.
  • Service Animals: Service animals are welcome. Pets are not permitted in the gallery. 

Bag and Item Policy 

  • Bag Checks: For the safety of the artworks, large bags, backpacks, and umbrellas must be checked or left in lockers. 
  • Coat Checks: For the safety of the artworks and the comfort of our visitors, all coats must be checked in our complimentary coat check area. 
  • Prohibited Items: Weapons, flammable items, and any objects deemed a risk to the collection or other visitors are not allowed. 

Photography and Filming 

  • Personal Use: Non-flash photography is permitted for personal use unless otherwise indicated. 
  • Prohibited Photography: Flash photography, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks are not allowed. Photography is not allowed in the stairwells. 
  • Restricted Exhibitions: Photography and filming are not permitted in certain exhibitions or areas, as indicated by signage. Please respect posted restrictions. 
  • Filming: Professional photography and filming require prior approval. 

Food and Drink 

  • Consumption: Food and drinks are not permitted in gallery spaces. shopAGA has a selection of refreshments available. 
  • Special Events: Consumption during special events is permitted in designated areas. 

Artwork and Exhibitions 

  • Do Not Touch: For the safety of the artworks, please refrain from touching any items on display unless explicitly allowed. 
  • Interactive Exhibits: Instructions for engagement with interactive exhibits must be followed. 
  • Respect Barriers: Please respect any barriers, stanchions, or ropes around exhibits. 

Children and Families 

  • Supervision: Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. 
  • Family Programs: We offer family-friendly programs. Visit (link to programming) for details. 

Conduct in Emergencies 

  • Evacuations: Follow staff instructions in case of an emergency. 
  • Medical Assistance: Notify staff immediately if medical assistance is needed. 

Code of Ethics and Legal Compliance 

  • Cultural Sensitivity: The AGA respectfully engages with diverse communities, including Indigenous peoples, and prohibits any behavior that disrespects cultural protocols. 
  • Compliance: Visitors must comply with federal, provincial, and municipal laws while on AGA property. 

Right to Refuse or Remove Entry 

The AGA reserves the right to refuse or remove visitors who do not comply with these guidelines.

Visit times vary by guest but on average one to two hours. Some guests stop in on their lunch, others take their time reading exhibition information and chatting with gallery attendants for deeper insights.

Kids are always welcome at the AGA. Strollers are welcome and we are a breastfeeding-friendly facility.

The AGA is wheelchair and stroller-friendly. Companion aids are always free. Complimentary wheelchairs and folding stools are available on request at Guest Services.

If there is a fire alarm or need to evacuate the building, please follow the directions of onsite staff, gather your immediate possessions and calmly exit the building. Gallery staff will escort you to the muster point.
If you require First Aid assistance please notify a staff member who will assist you.
