Consisting of a barebones stage, basic PA system and a secret compartment, Love Empire creates a space for public and private proclamations of love, admiration, passion and emotion. This interactive installation was originally commissioned by the Art Gallery of Alberta for the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art exhibition in 2005, and subsequently acquired for the National Gallery of Canada’s collection in 2007. For this special presentation at the AGA, August Klintberg has reimagined this work in a new iteration that has been created to be part of the AGA’s 100th Anniversary celebrations.
