May 3 | Creature Collages
Today is the first day of our newest exhibition featuring prints by artists William Kentridge and Pablo Picasso! While working at different times and in vastly different styles, both artists share an interest in printmaking, still lives, portraits, and collage. Gather inspiration from Kentridge’s cat prints and create a creature portrait using collage and charcoal.
May 10 | Clay Sculptures
Did you know that the earliest known sculptures date back to circa 32,000 BC! Visit our children’s gallery and then work with your hands and some modelling clay to create a figurative sculpture using additive and reductive techniques. Add ribbon or yarn to your sculpture to tie it all together.
May 17 | Splash Day
Join us for Splash Day and the opening of the City Hall fountain. Like artists before you, experiment with watercolour techniques to create a series of landscapes and underwater scenes.
May 31 | Folded Fan Club
Invented in Japan, folded fans have a long history across many cultures and experiences, used as a cooling device, in ceremony and as a symbol of wealth and opulence. Fashionable and fun, folded fans are also staples of queer culture. Make a fan using paper marbling techniques, and mix colour and pattern before folding the paper into its final form.
Jun 7 | Wearable Art
Express yourself through fashion! Create a wearable artwork using cardboard, fabric, mixed media and more. Whether you create something edgy or subtle, you are guaranteed to stand out in the crowd!
Jun 14 | Sidewalk Chalk Mural
Did you know that the AGA’s architect was inspired by our river valley when dreaming up the design of our building? Work alongside our educators and volunteers to create a large-scale chalk drawing of our beloved river valley on Churchill Square. Once you’ve added your mark, work on a smaller scale on paper and bring your artwork home with you.
