New Acquisitions: The Mitchell Endowment

Information

  • Date

    May 25 - July 1, 2013

As part of their support of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s new vision capital campaign, the Mitchell family donated funds to establish an ongoing acquisition for the AGA’s permanent collection. Focused on works of art by living Canadian artists, the Mitchell Endowment allows the AGA to build its collection while also supporting living artists. This exhibition features the first works that were acquired in 2012 with funds from the Mitchell Endowment.  The works in the exhibition are by 5 Alberta artists from across the province: Robin Arseneault (Calgary), David Hoffos (Lethbridge), Chris Millar (Calgary), Royden Mills (Edmonton) and Laura St. Pierre (Grand Prairie), all of whom have contributed to the AGA’s exhibition history, but were under represented in our collection. We would like to thank John and Maggie Mitchell for their contribution to the AGA new capital campaign and for their initiative in establishing this important endowment, which will enable us to continue to build the collection for years to come.
